Photo: Erik TorstenssonFor every longstanding Kate Moss for Topshop partnership (where dresses have sold out within two hours online), or Elle Macpherson Intimates label (which has garnered a clutch of entrepreneurial awards), there’s been a blink-and-you-miss-it Abbey Lee Kershaw capsule for ManiaMania or Jessica Stam collection for Rag & Bone. Models successfully moonlighting as designers may not be anything new, but Karlie Kloss insists she wasn’t jumping on any bandwagon with her FRAME Denim Forever Karlie jeans collaboration with friends Jens Grede and Erik Torstensson. Rather her first move into design, cheap michael kors gold watch for which she’s cocreated two excessively long jeans styles—flared and skinny in light and dark washes, each with 40-inch inseams—was born out of necessity, not ambition. “I’m freakishly tall, so finding pants that fit is something I’ve struggled with my whole life,” bemoans the gazelle-like six-foot-one beauty. “My secret to pulling off too-short jeans has always been to pair them with boots . . . and I really rocked the flood-pant trend for as long as I could!” Photo: Erik TorstenssonFor many, that will sound like a luxurious dilemma, but for towering women like Kloss, being unable to zone in on a staple pair of skinnies has been an unaddressed problem for far too long. “It wasn’t until I started modeling at fifteen that I even realized what well-fitting clothes felt like,” says the St. Louis native, who first walked for Calvin Klein in September 2007 and, before that, would pin herself into pants that were long in the leg and equally as expansive in the waist without a second thought. “I’m by no means a qualified designer, but through work I’ve learned how clothing should fit and ultimately, how it should feel,” she says. Along with the prerequisite enduring length, Kloss felt a slightly raised waistband was imperative: “There’s nothing worse than a pair of jeans that leaves you feeling exposed when you bend down!” It may sound like a relatively simple formula, but initially some stores were cautious, recalls Grede: “Nobody has ever done this before. It’s not just a case of making jeans longer; the entire proportion changes and denim factories had never cut that way before.” Nonetheless, a host of high-profile stores have signed up, and the trio’s unending jeans, which even Kloss admits she needs to roll up, will be available from the first week of June. “We’re just friends who got together and did this for fun,” says Grede. “I’m convinced there are other tall women out there who can’t find jeans that fit, but if nothing else, we’ve made the perfect ones for Karlie. She’s set for life!” Forever Karlie Flare $219 and Forever Karlie Skinny $209;Available starting in June at Barneys New York, Net-A-Porter, Ron Herman, and Jeffrey. For information: frame-denim.com
Photo: Courtesy of Fratelli RossettiGeorge Esquivel’s limited-edition Hobo Flower oxfords for Fratelli Rossetti reinforce white’s status as the official color of the season; after showing up on coats and sweaters at Alexander Wang and Rochas this fall, winter pale has migrated to shoes. The ivory-colored leather shoes with floral-shaped, hand-pierced perforations evoke a rogue blossom peeking out of an icy landscape, reminding us that perennial spring flowers (and oxford-ready bare ankles) will return sooner than we think. Esquivel’s perforated upper brings a touch of femininity to the laceless Hobo, exactly what women are looking for in menswear-inspired brogues. Though not recommended for an actual saunter through the snow, for now, think of these shoes as practical companions to cashmere socks, or just what you need to stand out michael kors handbags marshalls at holiday cocktail parties amid a sea of black pumps. Only 200 pairs will be available in each of the Fratelli Rossetti stores in Milan, New York, Paris, and Brussels starting December 10.

It’s also where Amelie Riech produces the cuffs, neck pieces, and delicate rings for her label, Uncommon Matters. “I remember all the smells of the factory and seeing my uncle painting the porcelain when I was a little girl,” says Riech, who has vivid memories of the antique Meissen figurines that lined her grandmother’s shelves. “The material always surrounded me in some way.” Familial nostalgia aside, there is nothing old world about her new collection of jewelry. Made in a limited run of 100 precious pieces, her sculptural work brings those artisanal traditions a step forward, molding porcelain in a classic palette of platinum, gold, and pure white. “I talk to the older folks in Thuringia and they are surprised that a young lady from the city is interested in this sort of thing,” says the Berlin-born, Paris-based designer and former assistant to Vogue fashion editor Marie-Amélie Sauvé. “With my work, I hope to help the craftspeople of the region forge a new identity.”uncommonmatters.comPhoto: Liam Goodman

In her column, Social Editor Chloe Malle shares where she’s going, what she’s wearing, and who she’s watching this week. There’s nothing like cocktails and canapés in a gorgeous Harlem brownstone to start the week off right. My friend Marjon invited me to join her at the Sunday evening fete hosted by The American Reader in celebration of the second issue of a new literary magazine, Music & Literature. Fashion’s version of the Oscars—the CFDA Awards, are on Monday night. I’m very excited to combine the gorgeous gold jacquard top and skirt of two Vera Wang spring looks. There are three after-parties that I know of so far and probably many more to boot: Vera Wang is receiving the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award and will therefore be hosting a late-night supper post awards at the Four Seasons Restaurant. This will be followed by the official CFDA after-party at the Top of the Standard, and a little further south there is a fete for Ricardo Tisci’s International Award. Under normal circumstances I might find the above overwhelming but I watched Behind the Candleabra last week and have since adopted Liberace’s approach: “Too much of a good thing is wonderful!”Tuesday night brings the Gordon Parks Awards as well as a dinner for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award recipients hosted by Jenna Lyons and Mark Holgate at Lafayette. Later in the week Natalya Rovner and Anya Ziourova are celebrating the launch of Sabine G. fine jewelry at Fivestory New York. Of course, we’re also on resort overdrive with designers asking us to imagine ourselves in Tulum and Monaco before stepping back outside cheap michael kors online shop the official shop into New York City’s concrete sauna. One mitigating factor for the heat? Photo: Courtesy of Roger Vivier; saksfifthavenue.com; Louis VuittonWe love the idea of carrying only the essentials in our bags this summer. No one wants to be michael kors hamilton handbags sale weighed down with a giant tote when it’s 100 degrees outside. This is a season when your accessories should be easy and light. All you really need to get through the day is your iPhone, a chic pair of sunglasses, and your wallet. Toss these in a petite pouchette covered in a discreet logo pattern and you’re ready to hit the office or the beach. Louis Vuitton cleverly put a little whistle on its Monogram Shine clutch, which is fabulous. It’s perfect for signaling the ice cream truck to pull over or for the cabana boy to bring you some water. Logos have come a long way from the oversize, over-the-top labels we used to see. My motto? Keep them at a minimum and make them fun.Clockwise from top left: Roger Vivier Porte Documents Miss X document holder, $345; Roger Vivier NY, 212.861.5371/ Fendi Zucca Multi Graffiti makeup bag, $210; for information: saksfifthavenue.com/ Louis Vuitton Monogram Shine clutch, $2,165; for stores: louisvuitton.com
Louis Vuitton Tahitienne BagsThe artsy accessories are in full bloom. And do you know which line I am loving most? Louis Vuitton! From the Watercolor Speedy to the Louis Vuitton Tahitienne Bags, Louis Vuitton has taken a light and fun approach on their spring bags. I’ve caught the LV bug. The Louis Vuitton Tahitienne Bags are hard not to love. They are monogram, but not overly splattered monogram. In fact, while the logo is large, it is still hard to decipher for many that do not know the new items from the brand. The bag is designed with woven cotton canvas and a monogram print with a hand painted effect inspired by a 1924 LV catalog cover. The inside only brings more fun, with smaller Tahitienne print. The shape is perfect for me and the feel is perfect for resort and summer. Actually, I look at this bag and picture myself with my bikini on headed to the beach or out for a day on the boat (or even better on an exotic island vacation!). The rich, vibrant colors are inspired by Paul Gauguin, a Post-Impressionist painter who is known for his bold use of color. Another perk is the adjustable leather shoulder straps and interior strap that can be adjusted to change the shape and capacity of the bags. Ok, I am kind of obsessively in love, I’ll admit it. While the prices are not super cheap, ranging from $1200 to $1600, the bags offer a great summer feel.Buy the Louis Vuitton Tahitienne GM in Rose through eLuxury.Louis Vuitton Monogram Tahitienne Cabas GM
Photographed by Emily WeissIt’s not unusual to see model agents backstage at fashion shows—they often travel the four-city circuit, promoting new faces and taking care of their established runway stars. But at Moncler Gamme Rouge, one rep was in Val Garland’s makeup chair, having her own lips painted jet-black for the runway: Jenny Shimizu. “In between being a booker at Women Direct, I’m also represented by Women, so I dusted off a few cobwebs and came back with a new perspective. A little older, a little wiser,” she said backstage. Still sporting the signature crop that made her famous in 1994’s CK1 campaign, Shimizu was a natural fit for Tuesday’s show—for which Moncler designer Giambattista Valli cast an eclectic group of new faces, “real people,” and grunge-era mainstays like Kirsten Owen. “What’s changed is my michael kors handbags groupon pre-show game,” says Shimizu. “It’s green tea and a lot of sleep, whereas back then, it was just going to work straight from a party. There’s a lot more prep work now, being older—very different from the nineties!” At 43 years old, she’s an industry veteran. “I’m probably the oldest, and shortest, model in the world at this moment,” she mused, laughing. Kidding aside, “handsome” and “boyish” have been beauty buzzwords at the collections these past weeks, with Saskia de Brauw, the striking 29-year-old Dutch model, steadily making waves of her own. For Shimizu, it may be an especially busy season. Emily Weiss is the editor of IntoTheGloss.com.
